easter!

I hope everyone had a great day, whether you were celebrating Easter or not!

My day was, as expected, AMAZING. Once the guests started to arrive, we moved the party outdoors and started our Easter egg hunt. This isn’t a popular thing in France, so for my cousins Marie (17) and Pauline (14) it was their first. It was also the first for my best friend Harris, who is Jewish! Upon opening his first egg and finding money and chocolate he immediately proclaimed that Easter is better than Passover. Indeed :) During the egg hunt, the champagne was opened. I’m probably the first person in history to do an Easter egg hunt at age 21 with a basket in one hand and a glass of champagne in the other. Don’t you just love it when your French family owns a vineyard and makes champagne? It gives you quite the excuse…

New Easter tradition!

Too. Much. Chocolate. MON DIEU. It was like Willy Wonka made Easter candy and his factory exploded at my family’s farm. After the hunt we sat around in the sunshine opening our eggs and enjoying an hors d’oeuvre prepared by my aunt and I (I scraped the crab off — even before going veg I’ve always hated crab).

Bleu Cheesecake (as in made with bleu cheese) with fruit chutney and lump crab meat (which I picked off my bites); served with crackers

Quality time was spent with the family and between us and the neighborhood friends who came to celebrate with us, I’m fairly certain that 6 bottles of champagne were consumed (I abstained after a few glasses, knowing full well that I had to drive home later).

Harris & I!

My Uncle Benoit taught me how to open a champagne bottle with that sabre! All the men in the family know, it was time a woman learned! Harris & I were reconstructing the moment.

After several applications of sunscreen, the food was eventually ready and we headed indoors for real Easter lunch. MORE FOOD? Yes please.

Roasted veggies (asparagus, red onion, carrot, and parsnip); mashed potatoes; whole grain sunflower seed bread; baked tofu.

Everyone else partook of venison and ham, so I pre-baked some tofu and warmed it up to get some protein in. I did not finish this plate, I was stuffed but knew that I’d also want the incredible desserts…

Dessert sampler (Easter cake, pannacotta, bread pudding, strawberry & rhubarb pie)

Unfortunately I did manage to eat most of this :) I do NOT need dinner tonight! I am still so full from our 2:30pm meal!

After hours and hours of eating and fun with my family, I sadly had to drag myself away and drive 2.5 hours home to the beach for work tomorrow. I’m back now, and feeling my sugar crash finally coming. I honestly don’t know what I’m going to do with all the loot I got from the Easter egg hunt! Anyone want candy???? My family does know me VERY well in that there were plenty of coconut treats and a Spiderman coloring book. I’m really cool.
